Perimenopause, answered
What age does perimenopause start?
Usually in your 40s, sometimes the late 30s. It is defined by hormonal change, not a birthday, so it varies widely.
How long does perimenopause last?
Typically four to eight years, but anywhere from a couple of years to over a decade. It ends twelve months after your last period, which is menopause.
What are the first signs?
Often changes in your cycle and sleep, new mood shifts, or the first hot flashes — frequently while you are still having periods. See the symptoms checklist.
What vitamins are commonly discussed?
Vitamin D, B12 and magnesium have the most behind them. See perimenopause vitamins.
What should I know before using supplements?
That few are proven, none are cures, and several interact with medication. Read the supplements guide and talk to your clinician first.
